Mobility of the future - demand-oriented and sustainable

Traffic is increasing, but the space available for traffic is limited. We therefore urgently need technological solutions - also to reduce the environmental impact and increase safety for all road users. The Federal Government wants to increase the efficiency of transport networks by means of intelligent transport systems and at the same time to make an active contribution to climate protection by developing alternative propulsion systems for vehicles. The aim is to ensure global mobility and make Germany as an important transit country the most modern logistics hub in Europe.
  • Automotive and traffic technologies

The increase in passenger and freight traffic represents a great challenge for transport infrastructures, logistics and technology. Studies forecast an increase in freight traffic of about 70 percent between 2004 and 2025. However, the space that can be used for roads, railroads and goods handling is limited. In addition, congestion causes considerable economic damage which can be reduced with intelligent infrastructures.

  • Aeronautical technologies: Safer and more eco-conscious flights

For years now, the aeronautical industry has been demonstrating above-average growth. In 2007, turnover topped the 20 billion euro mark. Even if the current economic conditions worldwide are having a negative impact on air transport efficiency, EUROCONTROL forecasts the long-term doubling of flight movements in Germany by 2025 compared with 2003.
