Research is the key to innovation, and innovation is the driver of growth and prosperity. Germany is in an excellent position, because science, research and innovation have been given greater priority in recent years. At the same time, however, we are facing great challenges. If we want to compete in the global race for talents and for technology and market leadership, we need to embrace the spirit of research and entrepreneurship. Priority for cutting-edge research in the SME sector

Signet KMU-innovativ Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are in the vanguard of technological progress in many areas. At the same time, however, the risks associated with cutting-edge research are often difficult for SMEs to carry. For this reason, the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) has introduced the KMU-innovativ scheme to significantly ease access to research funding for these companies by, amongst other things, simplified credit risk assessment. Through KMU-innovativ, the BMBF is supporting cutting-edge research in important future areas.
